The Chemical Society of Guam
Promoting Chemical Education and Professional Practice in Guam and the Marianas
Vision
Deepen the engagement of professional chemists with our community and schools to strengthen our professional network.
About the Society
The Chemical Society of Guam was inaugurated in June 2021 with the vision to promote the chemical education and professional practice of chemistry in Guam and the Marianas. The Society seeks to bring together all chemistry professionals in the region to advance chemical knowledge and practice as stated in the Society charter. This vision was born from the desire to deepen and expand the engagement of professional chemists with our community.
The University of Guam through the chemistry program has launched programs such as the Chemistry Titration Competition, High School Outreach, and Chemistry Teachers Forum that have been well received. Some have become annual events, such as the High School Titration Competition. These and other similar endeavors are what the Society plans to grow for our schools.
The Society also aims to conduct trainings, workshops, symposiums, and outreach that will improve the public good in matters relating to chemical knowledge and management. The rapid increase in technology and material science demands better knowledge and skill that chemists can provide. The Society strives to provide expert knowledge and skills in chemical science that will benefit the community
The Society will also serve as a body to protect the standard of practice of chemistry in the professional fields.
The goals for the Society mirror some well-established societies such as the American Chemical Society (USA) and the Chemical Society of the South Pacific (Fiji). Major events from these established societies will be adapted to fit the region’s goals. The Chemical Society of Guam will also seek to partner with potential sponsors in the region to help achieve its mission.
